On-Demand Senior Accounting Professional

Hybrid (Remote + Client Onsite in NW Vermont) | Full-Time | Finance Team

Overview

Ascend Fractional Finance is looking for an experienced accounting professional to support growing businesses across Vermont and on a remote bases nationwide. In this role, you’ll provide hands-on accounting services to a portfolio of clients—guiding their operations, optimizing systems, and bringing clarity to complex financials. You’ll work alongside experienced CFOs, Controllers, and finance consultants who thrive on solving challenges with speed and precision.

This is a client-facing role offering the flexibility of hybrid work, the variety of fractional engagements, and the impact of helping entrepreneurial businesses scale.

What You'll Do

Client-Facing Responsibilities

  • Own monthly, quarterly, and year-end closings across 2–5 client accounts

  • Train and mentor in-house client teams to strengthen financial operations

  • Prepare reconciliations, journal entries, and financial reporting packages

  • Document and improve key processes, controls, and accounting workflows

  • Collaborate with external auditors and legal teams as needed

  • Deliver timely and accurate reporting to drive client decision-making

Internal Collaboration

  • Work with Ascend’s CFOs and Controllers to implement systems and tools

  • Contribute to team methodologies, templates, and knowledge-sharing

  • Join special projects and ad hoc client work as needed

What You Bring

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting

  • Experience: 5+ years in accounting roles with increasing responsibility

  • Technical Proficiency: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel. experience with QBO, Xero, or NetSuite a plus

  • Knowledge: Strong grasp of GAAP; exposure to diverse industries and ERP systems

  • Traits: Organized, collaborative, adaptable. Able to juggle multiple clients with professionalism and ease

  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal skills; client-relationship savvy

Work Style & Location

  • Hybrid work: Primarily remote with ~25% travel to client sites (within ~60 minutes of Burlington, VT)

  • Some clients may require more or less onsite time depending on the engagement

  • Site visits may include office, warehouse, or manufacturing environments

  • Typical hours are M–F business hours; occasional flexibility required

  • Primary duties are performed while seated, but occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds may be required occasionally.
